Diversion Programs And InformationSanctioned students register HEREThe Substance Abuse Prevention Program believes the earlier a person receives information to make informed choices, the healthier their choices will be concerning alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. Thus, the more successful they will become with higher school retention rates, lower incidents of risk taking behavior and less negative consequences. While most college students make responsible decisions about alcohol and other drugs, there is a percentage of students who are drinking underage and a smaller percent of students who are binge drinking and having serious negative consequences. Those consequences may include lower academic performance and risk taking behavior resulting in injury to self and others. Working collaboratively with Office of Student Life, Student Housing, Student Health Services, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Department of Public Safety; SAPP offers diversion courses that are evidenced based and comprehensive with continually updated information. Programs include: B.U.S.T.E.D. (Beginning Underage Success Through Educational Diversion). This program was created in September 2000 out of a need to address the issues around drinking and the risky behaviors that are associated with alcohol use. The goal of the program is to provide information and resources to people to assist them to make responsible, low-risk choices about alcohol and alcohol-related behaviors. People use alcohol to talk comfortably in social situations, to have fun, lower inhibitions, avoid feelings of depression, isolation and loneliness, deal with stress, get false courage, fit in, and cope with everyday life. We help the participants increase their knowledge and understanding of the high risks associated with drinking underage, misusing and abusing alcohol, the possible legal and health consequences as well as understanding personal and public safety issues. B.U.S.T.E.D. is offered to U/O students who have been referred to participate in the diversion programs or anyone in the community that have been cited for a Minor in Possession, Furnishing and Allowing or other alcohol related offences. Our program has satisfied court requirements in Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona, Idaho, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, and many other municipal, county and circuit courts.Sanctioned students register HERE M.O.D. (Marijuana and Other Drugs) was initiated in fall 2001 for UO students and quickly expanded to satisfy court educations requirements when someone was cited for less than an ounce of marijuana. M.O.D., as with B.U.S.T.E.D. and CHOICES, focuses attention on the risky behaviors associated with use, the short and long term physical, psychological, emotional, and legal consequences of using. The class also looks at history, current trends, personal beliefs, values, and social environments. This class is available to students and non students.Sanctioned students register HERE For more information please contact: Navit Parker, Diversion Program Coordinator Phone: (541) 346-4135 180 Esslinger E-mail: navit@sapp.uoregon.edu
