This online workshop provides a broad overview of many of the major terms, concepts, and controversies in the fields of substance abuse prevention and intervention. It is introductory and serves as a starting point or a refresher. This course is intended as an entry point to the field and not as a comprehensive or definitive overview of every aspect of substance abuse.

  • Become familiar with basic terminology associated with substance use and abuse, and their prevention and treatment.
  • Become familiar with a range of basic concepts and models used in this field.
  • Increase knowledge of the characteristics of specific substances of abuse common in the US.
  • Become familiar with ethical and competency standards for practitioners in this field.
