The intent of this course is to provide the student with general knowledge of addiction in the growing elderly population. This class will briefly describe some basic addiction principles and how they apply to the elderly. Also, we will be discussing addiction identification, treatment and chemical interactions among popular prescription drugs and alcohol. Drug overdose has just recently been upgraded by the CDC as the third highest cause of death replacing traffic accidents, many of which are alcohol related, especially in the Elderly population.
