This course will focus on families and how they are impacted by drug abuse and other compulsive disorders. The course will help foster a better understanding of the dynamics of dysfunctional and functional family roles while exploring the complex defenses and significant feelings. Strategies to enrich family systems and to provide positive reinforcement for appropriate behavior and interaction will be discussed. Methodology: The class format will be comprised of lectures, media presentations and class discussions. In addition, guest lecturers who have expertise in specific subject matter will be invited to share their personal and/or professional theory, research, experience, and insight.
