This course is designed as an introduction to the major counseling theories that have demonstrated effectiveness with a variety of mental health issues including substance disorders. Students will study an overview of many specific theories, their founders, key concepts, techniques, and appropriate applications. Appropriate cultural applications of each theory will also be discussed.
