This course teaches how to minimize stress and depression and maximize personal resiliency through the use of positive coping skills, all of which are key to substance abuse prevention and recovery. Topics include recognizing stress and its effects (including substance abuse), altering individual perception of stressful events, and learning how to become stress hardy. The types, symptoms, and causes of depression will be described, and methods of treating and preventing depression will be explored. Participants will learn coping skills that can be directly applied to substance abuse prevention and recovery.
