Biography: |
Rick Siel brings to the classroom 30 years experience with Eugene Police Department; 15 years in Drug Enforcement and five years SWAT work. Ten years teaching at LCC Drugs and Narcotics and 12 years teaching at U/O Drug related courses. |

Description: |
This course examines challenges that face children whose parents abuse or manufacture methamphetamines; legal and social intervention strategies; increase child safety, custody, and health. |

Goals: |
To provide students with:- A basis for knowledge about and an understanding of methamphetamines, and the chemical and environmental dangers associated with their use and manufacture.
- Comprehensive information about health, safety and legal issues relevant to children, who are impacted by methamphetamine within our communities today.

Requirements: |
Examinations: There will be one (1) examination scheduled during this course. The examination will consist of true and false, essay and multiple choice questions. The examination will be prepared from lecture material presented, video presentations, and handout material. The examination will be given at the end of class on Sunday, June 21, 2009. Make-up Examinations: There will be no make-up examination without prior approval or special circumstances. |

Criteria: |
The grades will be based upon a combination of the following: Final Examination 75% Class Participation 25%The examination grade is calculated from the total possible points:
90 - 100 = A 80 - 89 = B 70 - 79 = C 60 - 69 = D 59 - 00 = F90 - 100 = A Exceptional; significantly exceeds the highest standards in all aspects o the course 80 - 89 = B Very good, maintains high standards in most assignments and active class participation 70 - 79 = C Meets basic standards of the course. Overall contribution to class is positive 60 - 69 = D Deficient in several ways. Only minimally acceptable; lowest passing grade 59 or less = F Failing; very poor performance |

Attendance Expectations: |
Class participation and attendance is required. Class participation is required. The instructor will not provide class notes to the student. If class time is missed, it is the student's responsibility to gather the missed material from fellow students. Students missing class hours during the session will be adversely affected by a loss of classroom participation grade point credits.
